THE hype album of the year and suprisingly for all the right reasons. XX is an amazing debut that has won accolades all over the shop. The best description for The XX I have heard is ‘Interpol goes RnB’ and listening to tracks like Crystalised and Islands all but confirms this. From the warm reverb bass to the sexual overtones of each song The XX wear their modern RnB influence well. Thats not to say that this is an album that relies on past greats, rather it builds on common convention, turning genres upside down and forging a niche all of their own. From start to finish, a joyous listening experience.
